The Japanese distribution network is very complex and difficult for a foreign entity to enter. The complicated and costly distribution affects the high price level in the domestic market. It is impossible for a foreign exporter to access the Japanese market directly. Therefore, it is advisable to use the services of Japanese import, brokerage and distribution companies. Wholesale and retail are mostly small or medium-sized enterprises. Firms with one to four employees account for about 60% of all firms, and moreover, more than half of the firms are privately held by a single owner. For Czech firms that do not have direct links to global multinationals with their own distribution in the Japanese market, the way to export to Japan is to contract with a local importer. The latter will already provide suitable distribution channels.
